Music drama, type of serious musical theatre, first advanced by Richard Wagner in his book Oper und Drama (–51; “Opera and Drama”), that was originally referred to as simply “drama.” (Wagner himself never used the term music drama, which was later used by his successors and by critics and scholars.) This new type of work was intended as a return to the Greek drama as Wagner. Richard Wagner was born to an ethnic German family in Leipzig, who lived at No 3, the Brühl (The House of the Red and White Lions) in the Jewish quarter. He was baptized at St. Thomas was the ninth child of Carl Friedrich Wagner, who was a clerk in the Leipzig police service, and his wife, Johanna Rosine (née Paetz), the daughter of a baker.
Wagner believes that the role of the orchestra is to be complex. It is the focal point and unifying element in Wagnerian music drama. Rudolf Wagner examines three of these plays written and performed between and in an effort to decode their hidden political and cultural meanings. He also provides a broad survey of the politics of the historical drama in China, suggesting further avenues of inquiry into the relationship between literature and the state. He simply used the term “drama” in his mammoth book of titled Opera and Drama. The term “Music Drama” was coined by his successors and by critics. Briefly put, Wagner looked for a return to ancient Greek ideals: the public expression of human aspirations as exemplified by the use of myth.
